James Covington | Herndon High School Band < Back James Covington Marching Band Assistant Mr. Covington has been working with the Pride of Herndon Marching Band since the fall of 2016. He grew up in the marching arts, performing with groups in Drum Corps International and Drum Corps Associates from 1997 until 2009. After completing a degree in Music Education at Ithaca College (NY) in 2009, he earned a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance at the University of Maryland - College Park in 2012. He has performed with groups such as the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Manassas Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta La Leyenda, the Eric Felten Jazz Orchestra, and at Busch Gardens Europe in Williamsburg, VA. Mr. Covington teaches general music at Greenbriar East Elementary School, and previously taught music at Herndon Elementary School as well as instrumental music in Prince George’s County Public Schools. Additionally, he is the trumpet player and music director for The DC Transit Band, a 9-piece wedding band based in Northern Virginia. Previous Next

Carlee Craze | Herndon High School Band < Back Carlee Craze Alumni Ms. Craze is a 2015 alumni of Herndon Band, named captain for 2 years and traveling to Disney and Hawaii. She has continued working with the Herndon Band since graduating, including as an instructor on the Paris trip. After graduating, Ms. Craze performed with the East Carolina University Color Guard competing in both AIA and WGI circuits. She strives to make all students feel included and give them experiences to grow outside of a classroom environment. Ms. Craze currently works full time as an Interior Designer. Previous Next

Trip Chair Herndon High School Band < Back Previous Next Trip Chair Shadow Needed Wendy Cummins transportation@herndonband.org Board Organizes logistics (hotel, bus, activities, meals, itinerary) details for all marching band trips and spring trip. Coordinates loadmaster volunteers for all marching band trips and spring trip. Works with Treasurer to pay vendors (bus, hotel, activities, meals) for trips. Works closely with Chaperone Coordinator to plan each trip and shares logistics workload. Attends all HHSBPA Board Meetings (usually held 1st Monday of each month) Attends all trips, unless their own child is not performing. Must be comfortable with spreadsheet, powerpoint and word applications. Full documentation of all trips from previous 10 years is available for reference. Previous Next

The Vice President will serve as Chairperson of Fundraising Activities and, in collaboration with the Board of Directors, will determine adequate fundraising programs to satisfy fiscal needs. The Vice President will serve as an ex-officio member of and supervise those committees, in coordination with the Chairs of such committees, involved in fundraising activities for the Band program. - Dr. Antares Leask | Herndon High School Band
Dr. Antares Leask | Herndon High School Band < Back Dr. Antares Leask Color Guard Dr. Antares Leask (she/her) has taught in secondary schools for twenty two years, with experience in Texas and Virginia. She teaches English and Education prep classes for Northern Virginia Community College and is a National Board Certified teacher. Dr. Leask was the 2009 Outstanding Teacher of the Gifted for Texas Region XI. Dr. Leask did her undergraduate work in English at the University of Georgia, holds Masters Degrees in Secondary Education and Gifted Education from the University of North Texas, and earned her Ph.D. in English from the University of Texas at Arlington. She holds secondary teaching certificates in both English and Gifted/Talented. She presents in the tech space about using AI for accessibility and also speaks and publishes on popular culture. She has been responsible for the visual programming and direction of DC's Different Drummers, South Lakes, and Briar Woods high schools in Northern Virginia, as well as schools in Texas and Georgia. She has choreographed for multiple other colorguards and has consulted in both programming and visual performance for several marching band programs. In the realm of colorguard performance, Dr. Leask performed with the award-winning Contempo (TX), Allure (TX), Escapade (OH), Ascension (TX), and DC's Different Drummers (DC) winterguards and Sky Ryders (TX) and Cadets of Bergen County (NJ) drum corps. In addition, she did administrative work for Cadets of Bergen County and the Santa Clara Vanguard drum corps, and has frequently volunteered with Winter Guard International. Dr. Leask also served for many years on the executive board of Atlantic Indoor Association North, helping to manage indoor colorguard and drumline competitions across Virginia. Dr. Leask is married with two children, two goofy dogs, and two cats who are jerks. Previous Next

Marching Uniforms Chair Herndon High School Band < Back Previous Next Marching Uniforms Chair Shadow Needed Marcy Brizzolara uniforms@herndonband.org Board The Marching Uniform Chair maintains all uniforms for the Band Program. In addition, the Marching Uniform Chair is responsible for inventory of donated shoes and other items as needed. For the 2024-25 marching season, the Marching Uniform Chair is also responsible for Guard uniforms (both parade and show), including coordinating with vendors, cleaning, inventory, fitting etc, in coordination with the Guard Coach(es) and Band Director. This may not be the case in subsequent years, if so, these tasks will fall to the Guard Chair. There are two seasons to the Uniform Coordinator job: Marching and Concert seasons. Both require ordering new pieces, fitting students for uniforms and shoes, hemming, sorting, cleaning (both dry cleaning jackets and bibbers, and laundering long and short sleeved shirts), and inventory. This includes shoes and gloves, as needed. Volunteers are a key component of this job; however it is not necessary that all volunteers have sewing skills. If there are parents within the HHSBPA that are willing and have volunteered those skills, the Uniform Coordinator(s) is responsible for coordinating repairs, hemming or other sewing type adjustments with that individual. The Uniform Coordinator(s) also order ancillary items for the marchers and/or the uniforms as needed, such as coat hangers, bandages, hair ties, etc, pending approval from the HHSBPA. The Uniform Coordinator attends all monthly Board meetings. The Marching Uniform Chair is also responsible for ordering band show shirts for the marching season, in conjunction with the Band Director, HHSBPA Treasurer, and Reston Shirts. Show shirts are provided for the marchers, the Band Director, and staff and custodial staff, as well as others at the Band Director’s discretion. Clear communication with the Band Director, building staff, Volunteer Coordinator, Board of Directors, dry cleaner, uniform vendors, and parents is necessary. The Uniform Coordinator usually accompanies the Band on all trips, competitions, and the Spring Trip. Previous Next

Jazz Band Ensemble in the Herndon High School Band < Back Jazz Band The Jazz Band is a small ensemble designed to promote the study of jazz literature, emphasizing improvisation and styles of the jazz idiom. Students meet after school once marching season has ended and receive a half credit for course participation. Admission to the group requires participation in a school based concert ensemble (such as Wind Ensemble) and audition. Auditions occur in May or June for the preceding school year and can be scheduled with Mrs. Jacoby at Director@HerndonBand.org . The instrumentation of the ensemble varies each year, but generally reflects a stand Big Band orchestration. Previous Next
- Jacob Reeves | Herndon High School Band
Jacob Reeves | Herndon High School Band < Back Jacob Reeves Marching Percussion Mr. Reeves is currently a Band Director at Mercer Middle School in Loudoun County, VA. He has previously taught at J. Michael Lunsford Middle School and Fluvanna Middle School. Mr. Reeves earned his Bachelors of Music from James Madison University in 2021 with an emphasis PreK-12 Instrumental Education and has since added Pre-k-12 Vocal Music Education. Mr. Reeves has taught percussion at Falls Church HS, Herndon HS, Dominion HS, Potomac Falls HS, River Bend Middle School, Freedom HS, and is the former Music Director of the Eta Omicron chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. He has directed and conducted 2 major POPs benefit concerts including over 200 musicians, and 7 different musical ensembles, raising over 18k for non-profit organizations. the pandemic Mr. Reeves has directed more than 50 virtual pieces for Langley HS Bands, Herndon HS Orchestras, George Mason HS Bands, Centerville HS Bands, and his own 2020 Virtual Christmas Concert featuring 150+ musicians from coast to coast in 30+ pieces. Mr. Reeves has been privileged to perform internationally with American Music Abroad Blue Tour and the JMU Brass Band. Some of his most memorable performances include his three performances at the Virginia Music Educators Association Conference where, at the 2013 conference performance, he was featured as a soloist performing with the Herndon High School Wind Ensemble; marched in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Day Parade in Honolulu, the Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington D.C, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC, and in the final Disney World Electric Light Parade in Orlando. Lastly, he performed twice at the Kennedy Center in the Cappies Orchestra. He is a member of the Brass Band of Northern Virginia and looks forward to taking the Freedom HS Percussion ensemble to compete in the Percussive Arts Society International Convention Chamber Ensemble Competition. In his free time, he supports his local church and school systems adding music to their programs. He looks forward to all of the new music making opportunities presented each day. His vision is to give back what others have done for him by creating an innovative environment for students to discover the beauty, passion, and stories in music through self exploration! - Aubrey Adams | Herndon High School Band
Aubrey Adams | Herndon High School Band < Back Aubrey Adams Percussion Ensemble Aubrey V. Adams retired with honors in November 2001 as principal percussionist and section leader for the United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. after over 21 years of service. Mr. Adams has performed in the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall with the National Symphony Orchestra. He is the timpanist of the Prince William Symphony and has performed as principal percussionist with the Washington Ballet. Mr. Adams also performs frequently with the Washington Bach Consort and numerous symphonies from Annapolis to Richmond. Mr. Adams may be heard on recordings of the U.S.A.F. Band and Orchestra, Capitol Winds, Warner Brothers, Meredith Publications, and Garwood Whaley’s’ Snare Drum Duets. Mr. Adams has performed on many local and national TV and radio broadcasts. He may be heard on recordings of the U.S.A.F. Band and Orchestra, Capitol Winds, Warner Brothers, Meredith Publications, and Garwood Whaley’s’ Recital Duets For Snare Drum. At present, Mr. Adams can also be heard playing all 40 of the Percussive Arts Society International Rudiments on their website. Mr. Adams has served as adjunct faculty for percussion at the University of Maryland and George Mason University. Mr. Adams is also active as a writer. He has contributed articles for the Instrumentalist and Percussive Arts Society; his competition solos for snare drum are published by Pioneer Percussion Company. Mr. Adams has an active percussion rental business and is sponsored by the Vic Firth Company. Previous Next
