Erica Hirt (In Memoriam) | Herndon High School Band < Back Erica Hirt (In Memoriam) Marching Tech, Marching Band Ms. Hirt worked with the Pride of Herndon Marching band from the fall of 2011 to winter of 2025. An alumna of Herndon High School, class of 2007, she graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2011. She was the band director at Armstrong ES in Reston and Forestville ES in Great Falls. In addition to teaching in Fairfax County Public Schools, she also taught private bassoon lessons in Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties. She performed regularly with the Fairfax Wind Symphony, Manassas Symphony Orchestra, and several other amateur music groups in Herndon and Chantilly. The Vice President will serve as Chairperson of Fundraising Activities and, in collaboration with the Board of Directors, will determine adequate fundraising programs to satisfy fiscal needs. The Vice President will serve as an ex-officio member of and supervise those committees, in coordination with the Chairs of such committees, involved in fundraising activities for the Band program. Forms Committee Chair Herndon High School Band < Back Previous Next Forms Committee Chair Wendy Cummins forms@herndonband.org I'M INTERESTED Board The Forms Committee Chair is responsible for assisting the Band Director in assembling, distributing and collecting required band forms and maintaining the CHARMS band database. Should be comfortable working with a spreadsheet and performing data entry. The activities for this position occur primarily in the spring, to a much lesser extent in the fall and minimally throughout the year. Assembles Band Packets for all students taking band the next calendar year (including rising ninth graders). Enters student information into the CHARMS band database. Files returned forms. Assists with the collection of required forms that are not turned in by deadlines or are incomplete. Running periodic reports for use by band board/committee chairs and for auditing database. (with Writer & Promotions) Community calendar updates - Update Facebook, Patch, Connection, and Times on upcoming events. Reach out to advertise events in the HHS weekly ‘News You Choose’ emails Programs - Create & update/produce programs for 5 concerts with the help of Graphic Designer Showcase programs - * Develop program for Showcase Competition - includes schedule, ads (provided by community as well as design basic ads from parents) and other information related to the event * Invite dignitaries, reach out to the community. *Email VIP passes * Advertise and place signs around the neighborhood and local schools. * Contact schools in the pyramid to spread the word. * Print and design Signs (parking, schedules, directions) Contact person for the Professional Photographer for Marching Band photos since Communications uses the photos the most in marketing materials. Volunteer Chair Herndon High School Band < Back Previous Next Volunteer Chair Shadow Needed Christine Cuadro volunteer@herndonband.org I'M INTERESTED Board Volunteer Coordinator works with the Director, various Chairs, and Board positions to meet volunteer requests for all events. This position involves: Updating the volunteer sheet that is sent out in the Summer mailing Collecting names, phones, emails of potential volunteers for each event; Organizing times and schedules; contacting volunteers; and sending out final reminders Responsibility for all Showcase volunteers-parents, HHS students, HMS students, and others. Showcase also includes the creation of a volunteer schedule in conjunction with the various Showcase Chairs. The volunteer coordinator also works on the Nominating Committee to fill positions for the next year Clear communication with the Band Director, Board of Directors, Fundraising Chairperson, various Chairs, CutTime Managers, and parents is necessary Communication is through phone contact, personal emails, and written band blasts. Wind Ensemble Ensemble in the Herndon High School Band < Back Wind Ensemble The Herndon High School Wind Ensemble is composed of the most advanced student-musicians and is open by audition only. It includes members from all four classes at Herndon High, meeting for one period daily and usually one evening per week during the concert season. The Wind Ensemble’s achievements over the past several decades have been most noteworthy. Beginning in 1978 with a Grand Championship in Florida, the band has continued to excel on the competitive stage, have won over 38 First Place or Grand Championship awards. Among its highlights are twice retiring the Governor’s Cup at the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival (a six year participation involving more than 200 concert bands from every state in the nation), many Gold Medal awards, and outstanding memories of superb music performances. In 1991, the Herndon Wind Ensemble was the only band selected for the Sudler Flag of Honor . This award, endowed by Louis and Virginia Sudler and sponsored by the John Philip Sousa Foundation, was established as a means of honoring the nation’s finest high school concert band programs. Through a rigorous selection process involving a seven year commitment, only 36 high school bands have been selected since its inception. The Wind Ensemble consistently achieves “Virginia Honor Band” recognition and receives superior ratings at all-district band festivals. Brian Fisher | Herndon High School Band < Back Brian Fisher Director of HHS Band Program Mr. Fisher is the Director of Bands at Herndon High School in Fairfax County beginning November of 2024. Mr. Fisher was the band director at Herndon Middle School from 2018-2024. Before that he was at Wakefield HS in Arlington. He has also taught band at Kenmore MS, Wilson HS (Washington D.C.), and West Milford HS and Macopin MS (New Jersey) Mr. Fisher is also currently the assistant conductor of the Arlington Concert Band. He recently completed his second music master’s degree, where he regularly conducted ensembles at Shenandoah University. As a saxophonist, Mr. Fisher performs with the JazzWorx Big Band and Fairfax Wind Symphony. Mr. Fisher comes to us with deep ties to the Herndon community. Not only does his son currently attend Herndon Middle School (and is in the band!), but he was on staff for the 2023 Pearl Harbor and 2019 Normandy trips and has co-led the HHS Jazz Band with Mr. Cunningham since moving to our area. At the state level, he has served as the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors’ Association District 12 Representative and he has extensive experience hosting and chairing our District Band and Solo & Ensemble events.
