Herndon High School Band Bingo Night (updated Jan 24, 2010)
It’s time for Bingo! February 26 ... Mark your calendars. Family Friendly ... Great Fundraiser ... Great Prizes!
As always, we need volunteers to make this successful. Please email Sheila Breuer to volunteer your time or if you have any questions.
Each student should donate $5.00 for the class baskets that will be Bingo prizes that evening. Please deposit a check payable to HHSBPA and marked "Bingo Basket Class of 201x" in the Red Box by Friday, February 12th.
Monthly HHSBPA Board Meeting (updated Jan 5, 2009)
All band parents are invited! Come and learn about the upcoming events and volunteer opportunites.
The next meeting of the HHSBPA Board is on Monday, March 1st. The board typically meets the first Monday of each month. All HHS Band parents are welcome. Please consider attending to keep informed about the various band events.

WVU Invitational Honor Band (Jan 7, 2010)
The WVU Honor Band will be February 11-13, 2010. Nomination forms must be submitted by Ms. Schoelwer NLT January 13th. Contact Ms. Schoelwer if you are interested in this Honor Band. Click here for more information about the Band.
2010 US Army Orchestra Young Artist Competition (Oct 28, 2009)
The Army Band is once again presenting a competition for high school age instrumentalists in the Washington D.C. area. Click here for more details about this event or click here to go to the Army Band’s website.
Please note that students need to send in a CD recording of their selected concerto movement accompanied by piano by Monday, February 1, 2010. Each student will receive a written evaluation of their competition entry. Applications may be downloaded from the Army Band’s website.

WDL Competition (Feb 8, 2010)
The first competition for the Winter Drum Line is on Saturday February 13th at Broad Run High School. Below is the schedule for the day:
- 8:30am: Report/warm-up at Herndon HS
- 9:30am: Load equipment onto pit truck
- 10:15am: Uniform check (long sleeve drumline shirt, black shoes, black socks, tunic)
- 10:30am: Depart Herndon HS
- 11:00am: Arrive at Broad Run HS
- 12:00pm: Warm-up
- 12:30pm: On-deck
- 12:40pm: Perform
- Load equipment back into truck
- 1:20pm: Awards
- 2:00pm: Arrive at HHS and unpack equipment
- 2:30pm: Go home
Solo and Ensemble Festival (updated Feb 2, 2010)
The Solo and Ensemble Festival for Band will happen on April 17th at Rachel Carson Middle School in Herndon. Click here for the student information form for this event. The titles, accompanists, and grades (I-VI) are due to Ms. Schoelwer by
Friday, March 12th. Click here for the application form. The application form is due to Ms. Schoelwer by Friday, February 19th.
Registration information:
- One form for each event should be filled out. This means you could have multiple forms if you are playing in multiple ensembles.
- You should only write one check for all events (i.e.: solo fee plus your duet fee)
- All checks should be made out to Herndon High School (NOT HHSBPA)
- Be sure to list your private teacher’s name. It’s important that we don’t schedule you to perform in a room where your teacher is judging.
Accompanist registration takes place online. Please contact Ms. Schoelwer if your accompanist needs to be registered with our district.
Festival Reminders:
- A student must have piano accompaniment for solos (or other works) that requiresa piano part.
- A student may perform with a tape/cd recording of the piano accompaniment, but must provide his/her own tape recorder/cd player. A student will not receive a rating if they perform without the required piano accompaniment.
- Two copies of the score are required. Judges should be given an original copy. District XII representatives will not be held responsible for copyright violations.
- The judge’s score must have the measures numbered.
- Students will not receive the adjudicator’s sheet or their rating at the time of the performance. Ratings will be posted in a central location shortly after the student’s performance. Adjudicator’s sheets will be forwarded to the respective band or orchestra director a few days following the event.
