Yahoo! Groups Instructions
By Invitation
All email addresses provided on the Band Student Information Sheet will be sent invitations to join the appropriate band groups (the main group and the group for your student's specific ensemble).
- When you receive the invitation, click on Join this group! to reply. The invitation will expire in 30 days, so please respond promptly.
- You will arrive at Invitation to Join HerndonMSBand (or whichever band your student is a member of). You have two options for joining the group:
- Join the Group - gives you access to the entire Group Site, allowing you to files and browse the message archives. You must have a Yahoo! ID to Join the Group
- If you don't have a Yahoo ID, follow the instructions to create a Yahoo! ID, otherwise sign in using your ID.
- Once you are signed in, click on the Join the Group link at the bottom of the screen.
- On the next page, Join the Group, make your selections for contact information, preferred message delivery method, and your message preferences. Type the security code as listed then click Join.
- On the next page, Membership Confirmation, confirm your choices. Uncheck the "Optional" box unless you want the Yahoo! toolbar. Click Continue to complete the process.
- After signing up you can access the groups via your Yahoo home page. You will need to sign in to Yahoo! Groups each time you wish to view the group content. All groups will be listed on your home page. You will receive your band messages via your regular email, it is just the Yahoo page and the message archives that you need to sign into Yahoo to see.
- Join the Mailing List - you will receive the group emails from the Band and can view the home page only, but you will not have access to all the features of the group site. You do not need a Yahoo! ID. You can change to a Group member later if you change your mind.
- Click the Join the Mailing List Instead link.
- After clicking on this link you will see a Congratulations note.
- You will then receive an email with a welcome message.
- Join the Group - gives you access to the entire Group Site, allowing you to files and browse the message archives. You must have a Yahoo! ID to Join the Group
- That's it! You should soon start receiving new messages from the group in your inbox.
Subscribe Directly
If you would like to add additional email addresses that did not receive an invitation, you can subscribe those addresses directly via email or from the HMS bands web site.
To subscribe by email, send a message to the address listed below for the band your child is assigned to. If you have children in different bands, you will need to do this separately for each group you wish to join. Please include the student's name in the body or subject of the message so we know you are with the HMS band. If your child has their own email address, they may subscribe as well.
