Solo and Ensemble Festival is an extracurricular event where students perform solos, duets, trios, or large group pieces for comments and ratings given by professional musicians.  It is completely voluntary.  Each student earning a "Superior" or "Excellent" rating will receive a medal from the Virginia Band and Orchestra Director's Association.  Registration usually begins in January of each year.  

Remember -- if you are a 7th grader and are in the running for the Master Musicianship Award, you must play a Grade 3 or higher SOLO and earn a superior or excellent rating to continue to qualify for the award.  If you are an 8th grader and are in the running for the Outstanding Musicianship Award, you must play a Grade 3 SOLO and earn a superior rating or play a Grade 4 or higher SOLO and earn an excellent or superior rating in order to continue to qualify for the award.  Award information can be found in the Band Handbook.
