The summer of 2011 is already filling up with lots of music and band-related activities.  Be sure check this page regularly for any updates or changes to posted items.  See below for the latest information on available classes and seminars this summer:

 

2011 Drum Major Academy (Jun 6, 2011)
The Legacy Continues!  The Drum Major Academy is the nation's foremost authority on the art of drum majoring, and the staff, all prominent music educators, has a wealth of teaching and performing experience, instructing over 3,000 drum major and band leadership students each year.  Click here to visit www.drummajor.org and learn more about these summer workshops.


2011 Judith Lapple Summer Woodwind Camp (Apr 1, 2011)
Announcing the Judith Lapple Summer Woodwind Camp.  It takes place July 25 – August 5 on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax and welcomes flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, and French horns.  It has three levels of instruction from beginners to advanced (ages 8 – 18).  For more information, please visit the Judith Lapple Woodwind Camp web site.


2011 Franklin Band & Orchestra Camp (Mar 17, 2011)
The annual Franklin Band & Orchestra Camp is back.  The camp runs from Jun 27 through July 22 at Franklin Middle School.  All students from elementary through high school are welcome.  Click here for the application form.


2011 Fairfax County Summer Band Camp (Mar 17, 2011)
The annual Franklin Band & Orchestra Camp is back.  The camp runs from Jun 27 through July 15 at Robinson Middle School.  This camp is for rising 5th through 9th graders.  Click here for the application form.  Click here for more information.


2011 Institute for the Arts (IFTA) (Mar 17, 2011)
The 24th Annual Institute for the Arts is will again occur this summer.  Students entering 7th through 12th grade are eligible for this program.  Courses are held daily at Lake Braddock Secondary School from July 5 through July 29.  Registration ends on May 27th.  Click here for a PDF with more information (program overview, course selection, application form) about this program.  Auditions are required for some courses.


2011 Clarinet Workshop (Mar 17, 2011)
The 7th Annual Clarinet Workshop happens again this summer.  This program is for high school clarinetists.  The workstop is from July 18 through July 23.  Click here for more information.


2011 GMU Potomac Arts Academy (Mar 17, 2011)
Do something fun and enriching this summer for yourself and your children!  Join the Potomac Arts Academy for one of the many exciting programs in both Fairfax County and Prince William County for all ages and levels.  Click here for more information.


2011-12 NSO Youth Fellowship Program (Mar 17, 2011)
Applications are now available on line for the 2011-12 NSO Youth Fellowship Program orchestral training program for talented high school instrumentalists interested in pursuing a career in orchestral music.

NEW: The 2011-12 NSO Youth Fellowship Program will be enhanced with a Chamber Music component, open to talented high school musicians, grades 9-12 [younger musicians (gr. 6-8) may be considered on a special case-by-case basis], including those who study with teachers outside of the NSO.  Eligible instruments are: violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, and harp.  [NOT eligible in 2011-12: trumpet, trombone, tuba, & percussion]
