What is the Virginia's Showcase of Bands? It is a marching band competition hosted each year by our Band Parents Association. Once again this year, we are teaming with the USSBA (United States Scholastic Bands Association) and will be hosting their Northern Virginia Regional competition. We already have 31 bands scheduled to perform and additional registrations are still possible. (You an see the latest list and schedule for performances here.) Each band that appears will compete with other bands of similar size in different categories. Judges rate and score each band, and the top bands are recognized with trophies. We will have two award ceremonies this year at about 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Our Pride of Herndon Marching Band will march in exhibition. We will receive ratings from the judges for our own use and will not be competing with any other band. This is a major fund raiser for the Band Parents Association. Over 350 volunteer positions have been identified and need to be filled to ensure that this year's edition follows the successful traditions of the nine that preceded it. There are volunteer positions available for adults, high school students and middle school students. We also have positions for people with limited mobility. We will need many hands the day of the event to do various activities like working in the concession stand, parking control, hospitality, and band guides. We partner students and parents for guides so that parents don't have to worry about not being familiar with the school. We also provide maps and instructions for each position. Slots available here. Thank you in advance to all of you for helping to make the 11th edition of the Virginia's Showcase of Bands fantastic! - Richard Yuras, Updated 03/31/2008 |
