Herndon Band Discount Cards are Here!

Sale of our popular Discount Cards is happening and will end on October 29th.

What are they?  Why do we sell them?  How much do they cost?  These and many other questions are answered on the Discount Cards Page.

It's Holiday Green Sales time!!

Your child should have brought their Greens packet home with them Wednesday October 8th after practice.  Frequently asked questions, color brochures, price list and order forms for the Holiday Greens Sale are in the packets (and on our Holiday Greens page).  Please contact your area chair if you need extra forms.

The sale begins as soon as you receive your packet and will end on Wednesday, October 29th.  You must turn in your completed order form to your Area Chairperson no later than October 29th.  Please collect all money with the orders.  Checks must be made out to HHSBPA.  Delivery will be between November 28th and December 5th.  Your Area Chairperson will call you with information about the exact date and place for pickup.  To see photos of the greens please go to www.sherwoodforestfarms.com.

competitionVBODA State Marching Festival - October 25th

The Pride of Herndon will march in the VBODA State Marching Festival on Saturday, October 25th.  The competition will be held at Battlefield High School.

Reminder - After School Marching Rehearsal (through the first week of November):

    Tuesdays: 2:30pm - 4:30pm
    Wednesdays: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
    Thursdays: 2:30pm - 4:30pm

 

 

Brass of Peace Brass Ensemble (September 23, 2008)

Congratulations to Matt Breuer for being accepted to the Brass of Peace Brass Ensemble!  This is a very select group, and Matt was chosen out of more than 15 other trombonists who auditioned.  For chances to see Matt perform, check out the Brass of Peace website at www.eclipseco.com.

competition'Bands Along the Occoquan' Results (September 15, 2008)

Congratulations to the Pride of Herndon Marching Band for their fantastic opening season performance!  Out of 12 bands at the Bands Along the Occoquan competition, Herndon placed 1st in music, drum major and drumline, 2nd in marching and general effect, and 3rd in guard.  In the AAAA class, Herndon won all awards.  The Pride also won 2nd place for Best Overall Band for the day.  We’re so proud of you!

The next meeting of the HHSBPA Board is on Monday, November 3rd.  The board typically meets the first Monday of each month.  All HHS Band parents are welcome.  Please consider attending to keep informed about the various band events.

competitionHomecoming - October 18th

Hospitality needs your help with the Homecoming Parade BBQ on Saturday, October 18th.

After the Middle School and High School bands march in the Homecoming Parade, they will return to the High School for their last BBQ of the season.  Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided by HHSBPA.  We are requesting the following donations from band parents:

    Freshmen: Tossed salad (and dressing) or sliced tomatoes/onions/pickles for hamburgers
    Sophomores: Desserts (please note that this is a 'nut free' food environment)
    Juniors: Side dishes such as potato salad, macaroni salad or mac-n-cheese etc.
    Seniors: Drinks - water & Gatorade in single serving sizes

Items should be dropped off at Herndon High School between 8:30am-9:00am on October 18th at the red hornet wall.  Please label any containers and utensils that will need to be returned.  Thank you for your continued support and donations!  For more information, please contact Monique Berkeley at Hospitality@HerndonBand.org.

 

 

A Showcase Thank You (October 9, 2008)

THANK YOU to "the best booster organization that can possibly be".

The 12th Virginia’s Showcase of Bands was again a great success because of your tireless effort.  Many thank you’s have already been expressed and I would be remiss not express my own.  First to the Showcase Committee that put in months of work to present the 12th Virginia’s Showcase of Bands: James Amonnett, Monique Berkeley, Katy Betti, Joan Biddle, Elizabeth Charles, Jackie & Seth Leventhal, Howard McAnany, Kathy Powers, John Rush and JoAnn Skinner.

Thank you to volunteers that arrived before sunrise on Saturday and left after sunset, doing multiple tasks whenever asked: George Berekely, Troy Miller and Kerri Wilson.  I’m sure I’ve missed others, please know my thanks extend to you as well.

To our alumni who either helped out during Showcase or with preparations before: Elizabeth Beach, Bobby Biddle, Sheridan Kramer, Kurt Theodorakis, Dave Vannel and Rich Yuras.  Special thanks to Mary Beach and the HHS Class of '08.

Thank you Ms. Schoelwer for all of your work with USSBA and the visiting Band Directors.

Last but not least, thank you to the folks that gave multiple days taking time away from family and work to give to The Pride: Gary Beach, Frank Bowen, Suzanne Cleveland, Brenda Kurtz, Neil Lovering, Anita Miller and Mary Catherine Williams.

The 12th Virginia’s Showcase of Bands, despite some unexpected challenges, was again successful.  Many of the guest bands and their supporters praised you, the Herndon High School Band Parents Association, for once again providing a first rate show.  You proved again that it is The Pride of Herndon Band Program!

Marching Fees2008-2009 Marching and Concert Band Fees

The HHS Band Board has finalized the fees for the 2008-2009 Pride of Herndon Marching unit and Concert Bands.  The total fee for each student is $575, and the payment schedule is:

  • June 2nd: The first Marching Band payment of $200 was due
  • July 31st: The second and final Marching Band payment of $275 was due
  • November 1st: The Concert fee of $100 is due

For each payment, write a check for the respective amount to the HHS BPA.  Please write "Marching Band Fee" or "Concert Fee" (whichever is appropriate) and the student's name on the memo line of the check.  Each payment can either be placed in the Red Box (in an envelope first) or mailed to HHS BPA, P.O. Box 1293, Herndon, VA 20172-1293.  The following two forms must be completed and accompany the first Marching payment.  Click on each link to open the form and print.

All band students and band parents must sign up for the appropriate Band Blasts (Yahoo! Groups).  These are the primary means of communication for news and announcements throughout the Pride of Herndon.  Click on the Yahoo! Groups title above or the Band Blast button at the top of this page for more information and to enroll in each group.

Harris Teeter VIC CardHarris Teeter VIC Card Now Benefits Herndon Band

Harris Teeter now has an account on the VIC card that will send funds directly to the band program.  If you do not have a card yet, you can sign up online at www.harristeeter.com (code 6075).  If you already have a card, you can either ask the cashier to link your card to the program, or you can stop by the service desk to sign up.  The card brings benefits of savings and entry into their frequent prize programs.  The band receives 5% of all purchases of Harris Teeter private label products.  Please note that the high school also has a code, so be sure to ask specifically for the band program - 6075 - to have the benefits sent directly to the band program.
