Nominations are now being accepted for all positions for the 2010-2011 HHSBPA Board.  The HHSBPA Board offers a tremendous opportunity to interract with the band, Herndon High School, the Herndon community and the Fairfax County Public School system.  Please consider volunteering your time to help improve every aspect of the Pride of Herndon.  Email the nominating committee (Elaine Bango, Katy Betti, Howard McAnany and Pat Tamaccio) with any questions or interest.

The HHS Jazz Band will headline the fundraising dinner at the Herndon United Methodist Church on Wednesday March 24th.  Come and enjoy dinner and a show which start at 6:00pm that evening.  Dinner is $5.00 per person or $20.00 for an entire family.  Proceeds benefit the HHS Band program.  Jazz Band members should arrive 5:15pm to eat dinner and setup for the show.  

The United States Navy Band is pleased to announce the seventh annual High School Concerto Competition.  Coordinated by principal horn Chief Musician Eric D. Moore, the competition is an opportunity for talented local musicians to rehearse and perform with the U.S. Navy Band.  This year’s concert will be held at Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall in Alexandria, Virginia, on April 22, 2010 at 7:30pm.  Last year’s highly successful concert featured winning clarinet instrumentalist from Vienna, Virginia, Rebekah Carpio.  Applications must be postmarked by March 25, 2010.  Click here for additional information and the application form.

Congratulations to all five Herndon students for their wonderful All-Virginia placements.  Both Matt Breuer and Michael Milazzo are FIRST in the entire state of Virginia - what an honor!!!  Justine Myers and Ryan Little have both made the Concert Band, and Sean Quaresima is second alternate.  Every student went up against the best players in Virginia and have made us proud.  The All-Virginia Band and Orchestra concert will be held in Virginia Beach on April 10, 2010.  Click here to see a congratulations note from Herndon Mayor Steve DeBenedittis.  Great job!!

The Brass of the Potomac are offering a free concert at 7:30pm on Tuesday April 13th at Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington DC.  The Brass are also looking for some small brass ensembles to perform and be part of their master class.  If you have a solo or ensemble group to send, email Jonathan Schiffler.  Click here for an information brochure about the event.

The next meeting of the HHSBPA Board is on Monday, April 5th.  The board typically meets the first Monday of each month.  All HHS Band parents are welcome.  Please consider attending to keep informed about the various band events.

The Herndon Winter Drum Line took 2nd place in their competition on March 6th.  This is a tremendous achievment considering the lost practice time that the recent snowmagedon caused.  The WDL competed against eight other teams in their division.

The District XII Band Festival will happen on March 12-13 at South Lakes High School in Reston.  We encourage parents to attend the performance and cheer their students on!  The Pride of Herndon is shooting for Virginia Honor Band for the second year in a row!  If you would like to take your child with you following the performance, you must give Ms. Schoelwer a note prior to departing HHS.

Please email Ms. Schoelwer the name of your Solo and Ensemble title and composer by THIS Friday - March 12th.  After Friday, changes can not be made.   If you know the grade of your piece, please include that information.  If not, Ms. Schoelwer can look it up for you with a title and composer.  Click here for the application form.  The application form is due to Ms. Schoelwer by Friday, February 19th.

The HHS Jazz Band will rehearse and perform with the U.S. Navy Commodores on Friday, March 26th.  This is an incredible opportunity for Jazz Band members to play with one of the premier jazz ensembles in the world.  Jazz Band members will leave HHS after 2nd period that day to travel to the Washington Navy Yard.  Drivers are needed.  If you can help, please email Davida Luehrs.  The Jazz Band members will rehearse and perform with the Commodores at 11:00am that morning.  They will eat lunch on base and be back at HHS by 2:20pm.
